Holtye Attains Women in Golf Charter Award
Dear Holtye Golf Club,
Women in Golf Charter - Club Signatory
I was personally delighted to read the commitments that you have made as part of your contribution to the delivery of the Women in Golf Charter.
Holtye Golf Club will be inspiring other clubs from across the country to develop a more inclusive culture within golf for more women and girls to develop across all levels of the sport. The commitments and targets you have set yourselves are ensuring we continue to develop as a sport and it's fantastic to see you are working on all aspects of the club from club governance to recruitment and retention.
Thank you to all those at Holtye Golf Club who have worked to implement the Women in Golf Charter to this point and we are looking forward to continuing to work with you to achieve your commitments.
I wish you all the very best and look forward to following your future progress.

Birchwood Trophy Final 18/9 @ Cooden Beach v Cottesmore GC
And so it was, that after five match wins, I found myself Captaining Holtye Golf Club in the final of the Birchwood Trophy.
Some 44 teams had originally entered - and so all those that had taken part could already be hugely proud of reaching the last stage.
The venue was Cooden Beach; a links course that - to be honest - couldn't be more different to our usual environment! Our opposition was Cottesmore, who had won their semi-final 5-0. A strong, competitive team to say the least!
The team gathered in good time"¦ all except Wakers who, after getting stuck in traffic sauntered onto the first tee with only a couple of minutes to spare. A good job that he doesn't usually practice and is as laid back as they come!
Along with the team, it was great to see Holtye's supporters there in force. Thanks to Nick Duc, Dave Fleming, Barry & Val Clarke, Graham & Caroline Snelgrove and Peter Gresham for making the trip. Sorry if I've missed anyone"¦ I was in "˜the zone' ;-)
Thanks also to Darren Child, Julian Dedman, Geoff Wise, Harry Milne, and Russell Walters for their caddying duties.
After words of encouragement on the patio, we all headed down to the first tee en masse. Chris Green was paired with Paul Dunne. Malcolm Marchant and John Ballard were the second group out. Roger Nunn and Steve Wakefield were in the middle of the pack, followed by Dean Harrison and myself. Last out as Holtye's "˜bankers' were Clayton Sullivan and Steve Finch.
A couple of the earlier matches were tight through several holes, which sent a positive message back to the rest of us. Sadly, it was Cottesmore that had the rub of the green, eventually swinging the matches in their favour.
The other matches followed suit unfortunately and we succumbed 5-0.
To pick up on County Secretary Anup Vassant's comment on the day, there were no losers.
We had done brilliantly to get to where we did and I'm proud of my whole squad.
Thanks should also go to Terry Sleet, Adrian Lewis, Ryan Simmons and Steve Walter who didn't make the final but contributed to us getting there.
On to next year, when hopefully we will continue to go from strength to strength.
I intend to stand down as Captain - so we're looking for someone that's equally as competitive (if that's possible) to take the reins.
