Seniors Section:
Holtye's Senior Section, known as the EGO Section , formed in 1982, is open to all male Club Members who reach the age of 55. The Section provides friendly competition every Wednesday morning for both experienced golfers or late entrants to the game who want an active and social environment to occupy some hours of their retirement.
Objective number one is the enjoyment of golf. Since its formation, the Section has increased its competitions from Monthly Stableford events to competitions for a number of trophies, donated by past and present EGOs, for the individual, pairs or teams, in a variety of different formats, match play, better ball, foursomes, greensomes or a mix of formats providing a fun day.
Lunches are enjoyed on all competition days except monthly stablefords. Competitions are treated with some seriousness, and for the three annual events with the Ladies Section, with some decorum. The Section plays friendly matches against the Seniors of ten other Clubs on a home and away basis, starting in February and ending in October.
Places are keenly competed for by members wishing to play at Royal Eastbourne, Willingdon, Lewes, Lingfield Park and other venues, but preference goes to those who commit themselves to playing the home match as well as the away match.
Contrary to popular opinion EGOs play off normal Club handicaps and have approximately fifteen opportunities each year to compete in qualifying stableford competitions played off white tees.
Any male Club members over 55 who would like to play their mid week golf in a competitive, but friendly atmosphere, are more than welcome to join us.
